Another birthday for ‘puchy’ is imminent.
This last Christmas, one of Freddie’s presents was a toy trumpet - After seeing him play the air tooter with most household objects, I think he self dedicated his wish list to Santa…
We’ve been attending a weekly music group at a local nursery since he was a few months old. ‘George the music man’ plays happy tunes to an impressive onslaught of babies and toddlers (so explains the big red sponge ball at the end of his trombone…KEEP OFF!)
Freddie, unlike most of the other kids as they slowly grew into standing shoes, would insist on sitting on my lap, suckling his left thumb and stretching his free hand up to my right ear - And stare. At George.
He’d survey George with serious intent as he played the brass. No clapping, no singing, no dancing, just sucking on the left and stroking on the right. Dare I encourage some action - NO MUMMY! So we stayed put, cuddled and watched through jumps and cheers…
At home we saw the creative results of these intense sessions of study - everyday objects had the great potential to be mastered as the trombone… from the obvious toilet roll tube to next doors’ table football handles - ‘IT’S GEORGE’! - A most entertaining period!
And so, being proud parents, we decided this guy deserved his own appropriately shaped tube to blow. Ok, it’s not a trombone but look at how he takes the trumpet - What a tooter!!
